Tommy Hilfiger - New Zealand
One of the world’s leading designer lifestyle brands, Tommy Hilfiger is the essence of classic American style. Founded in 1969 when Hilfiger opened a small amount of chain stores called Peoples Place, his goal was to bring “cool city styles” from New York to his friends in their small town upstate. Moving to New York City in 1979 to pursue a career as a full-time designer, he caught the eye of a businessman looking to launch a line of men’s clothing, and there Tommy Hilfiger was born.
Hilfiger’s signature collection was introduced in the mid-‘80s, lending time-honoured classics a fresh look. Button-up shirts, chinos and knits were modernised with updated fits and details, each displaying the iconic red, white and blue flat logo. Recognised internationally for its quality and quintessential American style, the brand’s relaxed and youthful attitude has remained a distinctive hallmark throughout subsequent collections.
Throughout his creative efforts as a designer, Hilfiger has developed lasting relationships with an array of influencers and trendsetters. In 1985 Hilfiger developed the now famous “hangman ad” for New York’s Times Square, and in the ‘90s, fused music and fashion by featuring musical talent in his advertising campaigns. Hilfiger believes his empire is all about “F.A.M.E” – Fashion, Art, Music and Entertainment – bringing celebrity, entertainment, fashion people, artists and sports together, creating pop culture.
Soon to celebrate its 30th anniversary, the iconic brand’s collection now ranges from menswear to womenswear, footwear to fragrances. Pick through THE ICONIC’s edit of premium knits, durable denim and crisp collared shirts for American-cool, varsity-inspired style.
