Patagonia
Founded by Californian climber and surfer, Yvon Chouinard, Patagonia was born as a spin-off of Chouinyard Equipment, a small shop near the Rincon surf breaks in California, who were known for making some of the world’s best climbing gear. The brand has since evolved into an outdoor clothing and equipment company with a mission to “build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, and use business to inspire solutions to the environmental crisis.”
From the brand’s pared-down and packable jackets to their classic cotton tees, Patagonia makes clothes for the “silent sports”, such as climbing, surfing, skiing and snowboarding, using sustainable fabrications and technologies that won’t hurt the environment. The brand exclusively uses organically grown cotton in all of its cotton products, and uses one of the world’s most durable natural fibres, hemp, as a sustainable alternative to linen. Patagonia’s down-filled products feature a mix of goose and duck down reclaimed from cushions, bedding and other used items that can’t be resold, and their partnership with bluesign® technologies has helped to reduce resource consumption in their materials supply chain.
Investing their time, energy and a percentage of their sales to preserving the environment, Patagonia is worth the investment. Browse through THE ICONIC’s edit of Patagonia products and enjoy your new sports essentials delivered to your door today.
